Just a short post this week with a couple interesting links. First, “Victory” by Roberto Bolaño, translated by Laura Healy (the arrow button on the right will get you to the English version).
I also discovered this really neat website last week: an author recommendation engine called literature-map.com. These tools can be hit or miss, and while it does need some work (at least with the more literary writers), I was surprised at how good it was. I threw it a mix of experimental 20th century poets, older and relatively established contemporary poets, and younger poets in their 40s and 50s who are just starting to get a broader audience but not the biggest names like Ada Limón and Jericho Brown…and it had more of the lesser-known names than I expected. Clearly people who like poetry have been giving it data and it’s usable for writers who have some acclaim. There’s a companion site, music-map.com, that I found really hard to stump (though the more obscure you get, especially to English-language music fans, the lighter the recommendations you get back).
That’s it! Until next week.
